Hand Painted Holiday - Wooden Halloween Raven

I was spending some time today in a small local second hand boutique in town. In a corner of a store they had this unique wooden blackbird with wire feet. I could hear him now "squawk, take me home". I picked him up, my fingers rolled down his back and I inspected the distressing and the few flaws of a life or two lived before in someone else's care. He was simply beautiful just the way he was, sleek and simple. But, I felt something missing if he was to fit into my home. He needed a fresh start, a start with a new look and a makeover idea popped into my head.

With the fantastic VOC free, Non-Toxic paints I have been using lately I thought it would be fun to put some in an empty henna cone and use the fine tip to draw with the chalk paint, Alamo White from Shabby Paints. This sweet and simple black bird was transformed into Wolfrum the Raven overnight.

Wolfrum now sports some fantastic detailing from his head to his tail feathers.

A simple heart on this tail feathers states he will be adored every Halloween as he makes his aperance in our home for the season.

Darkside Henna - Darth Vader Style

I had a fantastic customer. She was a sweet little girl with a love for Starwars, specifically Darth Vader. This project was so much fun to do, outside of my normal henna "box" of designs. The design of the iconic Imperial Forces leader was created on her forearm as if he was using the force reaching out with his hands.

She choose a design from a deviant artist that goes by: PhillieCheesie

 Stain Progression:

I love it when the client walks away so happy the smile won't leave there face. This was a great day for henna and my heart.

Remember:
"Come to the Darkside... we have cookies!"

Henna and Homecoming - A unique expresssion

Good morning everyone. Recently I had the opportunity to make three lovely high schoolers very happy. I was able to create the Henna designs for their homecoming dance. The designs included Gemstones, Gilding and Henna.

This first young lady has a really unique design. All she requested was in infinity sign be somewhere in the design on her back. This is what she got...
This is Light Pink Gilding and Light Pink Gemstones with Henna.

These next two were on the same young lady. However the lighting is off in the image of her back due to the room she was in. And I didn't have my good camera. Red Gilding and Black Gemstones with Henna

Hope you all have a fantastic day!

Henna Baby Belly Blessings - Shower Nichole with love

I had the pleasure this past weekend of being a part of a celebration of a life, one that will soon be introduced into this world. Nichole, is in her eighth month of pregnancy, the best time to have a Henna Belly Blessing applied. We had a consultation a few weeks before and we discussed designed for her belly and also her guests. The designs were created to coordinate so the designs her guests would choose would coordinate with her belly blessing for the photo ops.

Nichole chose an off centered C shape which we flip flopped the day due to the position of her bundle of joy's feet (kicking on her right side). This way it made it easier to continue to apply the henna in a timely manner.

We began the belly just before the guests started to arrive and as they came in they all stopped to watch her receive her belly blessing. Then they all took turns sitting down with me for their designs (they will be posted soon and linked back to here).

She had such a loving and supportive group of women with her that day. Can't you just see the love?

Henna Baby Blessings have been around for thousands of years in India and the middle east. In today's tradition it has transformed into ornamenting the belly not just the hands. It is a stunning way to embrace the changes a woman's body makes when creating a life inside.

May the birth of you child be swift and easy and my it be healthy and strong. Blessings to you, Nichole, and your family too. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your celebration!

Henna is becoming addicting in my local community

After posting several images of my daughter and I playing around with our new found love for henna tattoos I started getting PMs on Facebook about when I could meet up with people to do henna for them.

I had a vendor fair this week so I took my henna due to the interest it had online. I also had some privet appointments set up for this week and wow... so much fun!

Even a guy jumped right on in!
