Organize your glitters, glitter glues, flocking, embossing powders and beads

Hello organizers,

CHALLENGE #14 WEEK #4 - Glitter, Glitter Glue, Flocking, Embossing Powders, Micro Beads etc.

I am not sure if you all know but I am a glitter fanatic! LOL. To put it lightly. I have over 100 shades of glitter and embossing powders. I have almost 40 different colors of glitter glues. I am a bit obsessed about the sparkle I think ... LOL.

• Shimmer Powders and Flocking - No special way you need to store these accept away from moisture but that is true for about 99% of all scrapbooking supplies. They do look pretty and can be stored nicely on display. Try finding an old, small metal cookie sheet at the local thrift store. Paint or alter it a bit and put thin magnets on the bottom of the powder containers. Hang it on the wall up above the work space. Or Stack them and store them on a shelf. Maybe even store them in a nice basket that you can keep handy.
  
  Note: if storing in a box, basket or drawer... turn them upside down. Not for he reasons you do inks but so you can see the colors inside the jars, instead of the white/black lids.

• Glitters and Glitter Glues - I LOVE glitter... there are so many options for storing regular glitter many have been mentioned above in other items. The glitter glue however works best, with the least amount of bubble explosions on your page, if you store them upside down.

• Embossing supplies - Now normally the embossing tool would be placed in with the tool category but if you want to create a mini embossing center and organize it in with your embossing supplies then I would suggest you do what works for you. I created a drawer for all my supplies and organized it all within that drawer. A Basket would work well or if you want a counter top embossing center we can discuss better ways to display these items.

"Oh Say Can You See" 4th of July Blog Hop

I have a 4th of July fireworks card for you. This was a crazy card I created that was a little outside my box. Yet this was so fun to create and I had a blast mimicking a firework explosion. Here is a little explanation and instruction for you if you would like to create this card.

4th of July card Instructions:

1. 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of white cardstock, fold in half with bone folder
2. 3 3/4" x 5" piece of red cardstock
3. Draw along the edge of red cardstock with gold ink pen
4. Stamp 13 - 15 small 4th of July images with red pigment ink on extra white cardstock
5. Heat emboss with red glitter embossing powder
6. Color in with blue, red and gold markers
7. Cut around images leaving 1/16" of white around embossed image
8. Adhere all cut out images onto blue cardstock
9. Cut around all images leaving 1/16" of blue around the white
10. Cut 7-9 1" strips of white fibers
11. Adhere red cardstock in the center of the folded card base
12. Choose the main embossed image and adhere it to the center front of the red cardstock with two layers of pop dots
13. Choose five embossed images and adhere them around the center image with one pop dot
14. Adhere remaining embossed images with mono adhesive around the embossed images from the previous step
15. Roll the 1" strip of fibers into a ball, try to keep the fibers out of the adhesive, and adhere under the popped up layers of embossed images.
16. Spread extending fibers into place before adhesive drys.

In Loving Memory of Nita

Nita was my Hubby's Grandmother, grand indeed. She was loving, caring and selfless. She lived her life according to God's word and seemed to always know what to say and how to handle things. Every time I saw her she always had a beautiful smile and peaceful heart. I only had the pleasure of knowing her for about five years and I sadly did not have a lot of opportunities to spend with her. The time I did spend with her she always was a good example of how I would want to live my life. She will always be remembered for many things and will always live in the hearts of her family.
Nita passed away a couple of years ago this past March. Last Christmas I created this as a shadow box for my Mother-in-law. The picture is of Nita in front of her house holding my daughter Trinity when she was 5 months old. It is one of the most beautiful pictures I have of Nita and I love the reminder, within the content of this photo, that life goes on.
Though this was created in December of last year I have not blogged about it yet. It still is one of my favorite pages. It just recently was published in Scrapbook News and Review. This is the Layout that led to me becoming a staff member for that wonderful E-zine. Now for the Details... if I can remember them...lol.

Details:
Upper Left: I this shot you can see the many layers that I used to create this shadowbox. Every thing is pop dotted the piece is about 1" thick. The background is simply a sage tone on tone paper that I cut large 1" scallops around. I lightly distressed the edges with versa mark and chalk. Within each scallop I too and punched out of scraps little flowers and glued them down. The next layer is the light purple. On this layer I printed Nita's favorite Hymn. You can see this better in the over all pic.
The hardware I used in this layout is an antique brass. This door plate was filled with a cream cardstock with a stamped image that has been heat embossed with an antique gold embossing powder. This same technique is found in the hand drawn and cut flourishes you can see here and throughout this page. The fabric flowers are all prima and the paper ones were all hand made. I used a lot of pearls to accent this layout and the flower clusters are no acception for this. On top of the purple paper is the photo backed with a cream card sock slightly distressed. The photo has an overlay on it creating that scalloped edge around the photo. The buttons here are just glued on however I love details and every button on this page had gold thread laced though them to make them appear that they have been sewn on. The last thing in this upper left detail shot would be the woven ribbon that I have used. It is a simple cotton crocheted ribbon that has a brown grosgrain ribbon woven though it every couple of inches.
Bottom Left: There is not much new here accept that one of the flowers I used in this large flower stack is a distressed chipboard flower.
Bottom Right: Here is the title of the layout. I used these wonderful letters from Joann's in an antique brass. The letters are stuck on with tacky tape. All of this title is popped up about 1/2" from the backing. It is sported with several layers of card stock. The only new element here is the ear ring. This is a vintage clip on earring that I broke off the clip part. I love how this is a suspended element on this page. The ribbons are the same type that go up the left side of the layout, however they are not woven together.
Not shown in the detail pics: There is a circular elements. The lighter patterned paper has Nita's favorite scripture. The edges have been distressed on this piece and little flowers were added around the edge. The darker brown circle was cut with fiskars decorative scissors. Inked with a cream pigment ink and doodled on. Then pearls were added.

From This Day Forward

Okay I finally broke down and forced myself to open my box of wedding photos and pic out one of the precious moments from that day and scrap it.... yes I put sticky glue all over the picture, front and back! I know some of you are gasping... Oh my!!! But to calm your nerves and mine... lol. I used a duplicate and I have the negatives. This is one reason I chose the photo I did. Now, the anxiety I had about beginning this project stems from the importance of this event. It was one of the happiest days of my life and I still seven years later tear up as I look through these pictures. I did not plan this but I finished this layout the morning of our seventh year anniversary. The date on the LO though is for our formal wedding in September not the Justice of the Peace one we had in March. Technically we have said our I Dos three times and I joke with my hubby that we should renew our vows in every state we live so we can collect the licenses... hehe if they would issue them to us that is. Lol. Well with out much further adieu here is the layout that begins a very large project for me and opens up my scrapbooking world to the elegant, romantic and sophisticated side instead of the playful, childlike youth side.

I created this for the monochromatic challenge for the Coordinates Collections March Madness Cyber Crop I attended this past weekend. I was shocked when I was done to realize I used only two.. yes TWO pieces of Cardstock. No patterned paper... just cardstock. I did lost of new techniques in this and I will be filling you in on those in a minute. The trick in my opinion with a monochromatic layout is to balance texture, patterns and dimension. I will go over these in a bit. Lets get started on the juicy details.

Background:
Ok this is an easy one... white cardstock... NEXT... just kidding I actually have to type techniques in the area this time. So here it goes. I took a thick cardstock scrap and cut a diamond out of this. I used it as a template to create the cream colored diamonds with Stampin Up Cream Craft ink. I did this about 1/2 of the page leaving the few diamonds in the center of the page to fade into the bottom right half. This is best seen right above the upper left corner of our wedding photo. After waiting for this to dry I took my piercing tool and my hole template and poked holes all along the edges of the diamonds. I threaded cream DMC floss through these holes and added one iridescent bead to each stitch. This took forever! Literally ... about 1 1/2 to two hours. But it looks great and it is so elegant.
Out of the cream cardstock I used the cricut to cut a 4" damask type pattern. I created this three times to back or mat the photo and to add a pattern and texture to the right side of the page. I took my white pen and added some doodling on top of this die cut patterns. I adhered them to the page.
Lastly on the main cardstock I took my Tim Holtz mask and used it along the bottom of this page. Once in place I used a cosmetic sponge (they are cheep at the dollar store) and applied versa mark ink around the mask. Once this step is complete I quickly removed the mask and sprinkled an iridescent glitter embossing powder. Heated it up with my handy dandy heating tool and wow... I love the result.
Embellishments:
Upper right: of the layout I have a journal box that reads "To have and to hold from this day forward." This is from a pre-printed wedding embellishment pack from Creative Memories... it was part of my old stash. I added some dry embossing onto this piece of paper and edged it in gold.. up.. you guessed it ... my gold Zig Painty Pen.. which by the way is dieing and drying out... I don't know what I am going to do. I think I got it from Stampin' Up, I cant find them in the stores. Sorry I just panicked there for a second...lol. Back to the subject. I embellished this box with an American Crafts chipboard shape I edged in gold also and some cricut die cuts from the Home Accent cartridge. The little heart with the DMC floss stitched around it is a punch from Martha Stewart's Valentines line. Last but not least.. a prima flower centered with a pearl, in the corner. I popped this up off the background cardstock due to the thickness of the beading. I used the foam squares to do so.
The Bottom Left: The main focus of this cluster is the large 4" damask pattern behind the embellishments. All of them by the way are the same as the upper left. This pattern is the same as the ones I used behind the photo, however it is cut out of white cardstock. I finished this one with spray adhesive and Stampin' Up's clear micro beads. I lifted this off the page with foam squares cut into little pieces due to the intricacy of this design.
Right side: The rhinestones are prima say it with crystals. After putting the photo on the page over the cream damask pattern I also added the shear ribbon along the right of the page. Placed the crystals over all that and embellished more along the right with the cream velvet ribbon, cardstock hearts and flowers. Some of the hearts are stamped with versa mark with a toile type design from Stampin' Up. I also added the frame embellishment with our wedding date in it. Again this was a cricut die cut shape cut in white cardstock and backed with the cream.

Thanks for looking and sharing in this huge step for my scrapping. I feel better knowing that I can scrap this event and I like the result.

Swingin' In Style

Good Morning... or evening or what ever it is to you at this awful time of the day. I have been up all night ... by accident... scrapping and lost track of time. HEHE I do that way to much.

Here is my newest one of the kiddos. I have to admit though I am so far behind in my scrapping that this one is from 2006. These are some my mother took of the kids. *wave* hi MOM! She is a wonderful photographer for family shots though this day was just some candid at the park. I had to run to someones house for a bit and she snuck out her camera and went to town. I love these pics. My kids are swing freaks. No matter what they must hop on the swing if there is one in sight.

This LO was based on the Single page sketch contest over at Coordinate Collections. I cant wait till next weekend. They are hosting a cyper crop and it is my first one I want to attend. Not quite sure what to expect accept to get some layouts done... hehe. The theme is March Magic... so I need to go searching for some pics.

Journaling says:
"My babies love to swing! Tristan and Trinity took advantage of MeMaw and her soft heart getting her to push them for almost an hour."

Swingin' In Style Details:
Background: This is a DCWV paper from their spring stack it has the blue boarder and the yellow scalloped print all in one sheet. I took my orange iridescent glitter glue and went along the scalloped edge to give it some sparkle.

Top Left:
This is a wonderful cluster I just love the complimentary colors of the blue and orange. I have taken a coordinating floral paper and cut it to anchor the pictures from above. As if they were swinging from it. I put iridescent white glitter glue on the blue flowers in this pattern. I love making the cheaper paper look rich by adding glitter or chalk to it. This was backed with a off red/coral color cardstock.
The ribbon is the grosgrain and the orange glitter is a strip of paper from the coordinating boarder paper. Love that! I just added the orange glitter glue to that orange strip.
The journal box is a shape from the cricut. I just cut it out one size smaller for the yellow cardstock then for the coral patterned paper. I edged, doodled and wrote on the yellow cardstock with a light blue marker.
The flourishes are from the cricut also cut out of blue cardstock. I stamped them with versa mark and heat embossed them with a clear powder. I added a blue floral rub on and the little blue flowers I cut out of a boarder that was on the coordinating boarder paper.
The large flowers are prima and the brown and blue are cut with the cricut and each petal rolled around an ink pen.

Bottom Left:
The ribbon type coral color paper was cut from a coordinating paper and then I added glitter glue to the dark coral stripe along the top and bottom. I added some rub-ons to this cluster and the bird is from the cricut. I cut it and the wing out of brown cardstock, the floral paper from above and the blue cardstock used in the flourishes listed above. Then I took and layered the different elements of the bird together. I added rub-ons and the flowers are the same as above also. I have the location and the date journaled up the left of the pic of my daughter.

Bottom Right:
The matting of the large pic is brown cardstock stamped with versa mark ink and then punched with a scalloped heart boarder punch. I layered a yellow cardstock in there and topped it off with the coral scalloped strip I cut out from the coordinating boarder paper. I raised the photo with foam squares.
The title was from the cricut and was heat embossed just like the flourishes in the Top Left closeup. The Flower cluster here is a little different the bottom layers were part of the patterned paper I took the coral ribbon from. I added a bottom layer flower of a dark coral from that same sheet and cut the yellow petals out along the inside coral layer so I could raise and roll them up. The inside coral layer I glitter glued with the orange iridescent glue. Then it is topped off with a similar flower cluster as the others.
