Minecraft 3D Box Birthday Party Invitations - Custom Handmade Cards

Well my wonderful readers, it's that time of year again, my son's:

Birthday Party Time!!!

The theme this year is: MINECRAFT

Minecraft 3D Box Birthday Party Invitations (click to enlarge)

In a new state we were able to scale down the amount of invitations to only 20 this year! That is huge for this Mama, who is used to inviting upwards of 40 kids! Can you imagine? I think we even had our Harry Potter party where we allowed siblings to attend as well with almost 50 kids in attendance. YIKES!

After a very chilled out BFF only party last year my son is ready to host a bash again this year. So he choose his theme of Minecraft. If you have a child in you life who likes video games I am sure you know what this is. It reverts back to the old 16-bit graphics and is wildly popular with the gaming crowd. I don't mind him playing this game because of many reasons but my favorite thing about it is that it uses creativity. My son will sit here and build a home from the bottom up or a roller coaster or something crazy. Yup, the creativity in this game is what sold me on it.

Enough about that lets get on with the 3D Invitations! Let me know what you think in the comments below.

As seen in the image above we used clear 6.5" square envelopes to hand out these cards. They could be mailed also they fold up so thin! How cool is that? Both the back and front of the card is the TNT graphic.

How does it work? Check out this 2 min video where my son, the birthday boy shows you how it works, push play and watch it in action:

Since these are double sided you can always opt to "unfold" one side relieving the inside of the box a bit more while the card is inside the envelope. But we didn't do this... thought it would be more fun to have the 3D surprise in the box when they opened it.

Option 2 on flattening the card (click to enlarge)
Once you open the card it unfolds into a box and the side flaps come down revealing the party info and characters like these here: Steve, Enderdragon, Enderman, Slime and a Zombie Pigman.

My son helped me fussy cut out all the characters, we averaged about 100 total. Here are some close ups of the characters inside the box card. The cool thing about this is each card was different. No card had the exact same characters, which left the kids chatting about it after they were handed out. Who got what inside their invitations!

I hope you found this an interesting post. We had tons of fun making these and handing them out. There will be more post to come about the party decor, games and food.

National Dance Week Celebrations - Dance related creative Projects

Happy National Dance Week

April 25 - May 4, 2014 is NDW, a week to celebrate dance and promote fun fitness! So I have compiled a round up of all my dance related projects.

Paper Crafts:

Trinity was a hula dancing girl before she started ballet "Hula Kids"

Birthday Party:

My daughter's love for ballet all started with Angelina Ballerina. Of course she had to have a Angelina Birthday Party, these are the invitations. At witch we surprised her with her very first ballet lessons... that was the beginning of her love for ballet.
http://blog.uniquelygrace.com/2010/01/angelina-ballerina-party-invitations.html

Her party was a smashing hit where I dressed as a dance madam and taught all her friends a quick ballet dance they preformed for their parents when they were picked up. The guest gifts were handmade tutus and hair pieces, we had a child sized Angelina Ballerina to pose for photos with, everything was frilly pink and of course there was the Angelina Ballerina Cake, handmade by me!.

3D Projects:

As a piece of her room decor I created this shadow box "I Love Ballet"

A few years of dance and she wanted to be a 3D Paper Doll Ballerina for Halloween.

I hope you enjoyed this dance round up of our lives... here is a quick photo of another crafty dance project that I have not blogged about yet.

My daughter was cast as the Scarecrow in her ballet class's version of the Wizard of Oz. I had to craft a straw hat that was pretty with girly flowers on it to match her costume. I also added burlap patches to the tutu for her. It was a 99cent Only Store sun hat and the flowers were extras from the pony tail hair piece ordered with the costume.

Harry Potter Birthday Decor Project Video with Helmar - Post #4

Hello Readers!
I know it has been a while since my last post. I have been out of town... right after the Harry Potter Party I had to leave on a two week trip to Colorado for my baby sister's wedding... lots of projects to share about that too. It was my son's 10th birthday party and I know I am a sucker for going all out on the big day... he hit double digits after all.

But for now as I play catch up from this crazy busy month here is a video I made of all the Helmar Projects for the Harry Potter party. More post to come about the individual project and the rooms and other projects not in this video.

Hope you enjoy this video and like I said more detailed posts to come!

Harry Potter Invitations delivered Owl Post - Harry Potter Party Post #1

Hello everyone,

I am very excited today to begin to share with you my son's tenth birthday party projects.  He has just completed all the Harry Potter books and decided he wanted a Hagwarts party. So... we started with the invites. I got this balloon owl post idea from Pinterest ... the original blog post is HERE.

Each invite was sealed with a "H" stamp and red wax. The Hogwarts logo printed on the back and addressed to them on the front "in the cupboard under the stairs" The owl post stamp image came from this blog post HERE.

Each envelope contains one ticket to the Hogwarts Express (customized to our home town and party location, in Photoshop) and an acceptance letter from Hogwarts signed by Professor M. McGonagall (I later found her actual signature image on this page HERE). This letter has a secret message hidden in it in Parseltongue (that is the font style... find free Harry Potter fonts HERE) the message reads "Happy tenth birthday Tristan, please join us". When the card is folded to fit into the envelope the Hogwarts logo is on the front.

It reads:

Dear Mr. Lauer,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Due to the late notice of your attendance this year we will provide the necessary items you usually would be required to obtain prior to your arrival. Please prepare your wardrobe with a white shirt and either gray or black pants or skirt if you have them on hand.

Term begins May 5th. The sorting ceremony will begin at 1:00 sharp. Classes and Quidditch will finish at 4:30. We await your owl (rsvp) by no later than April 3o. Your ticket for the Hogwarts Express is included in this envelope. The Hogwarts Train will depart from (insert address here) Enjoy your journey.

Yours sincerely,

Find the secret message in this letter to decode the reason
You are being summoned…

Here is a photo with it all together.

The next step was to order up some balloons from the local party store, Party Land!I found that with the 40 invites we were handing out it was only $3 more expensive to have someone else professionally blow up these balloons instead of getting my own mini tank and taking up my time to to this task. So we ordered them in three colors with orange ribbons (to resemble their feet). Once we got them home I took sharpies and drew the owl faces and bodies on them. My hubby helped by coloring in the eyes and adding color to the beaks.
We decided to have two deliveries. Half the kids receiving invites were close friends to Tristan and we knew where they lived. So we tied the long strings (so the owls can easily be seen from the peep hole or when they open the door) from the owl balloons to the envelops... it was just enough to weight them down but we had to be careful because it was a bit breezy that day and the envelopes were not heavy enough to hold them down very well.

Here is my son "ding dong ditching" the owls to the front doors... They were so much fun to deliver this way. Sitting in the car with the windows down I was able to see and hear a lot of the reactions to our Owl Post deliveries.

The next day the rest of the balloons were ready to be delivered to his class. I tied these ones much shorter to avoid as much tangling as possible of the strings. The balloons held up beautifully (probably because I had them professionally done).  This is a photo of the shorter strings and the three colors we created them in.

We tried to make the owls different too... we had some Crazy Eyed "Weasley" type owls... this one was my son's favorite.
Her is the class photo of all the kids. Remember 1/2 of them got their invitations delivered at home the night before.
My Son is the crazy looking one so excited in the bottom right corner... with his arms spread out wide. Everyone enjoyed the invitations. I hope you do too!

Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Mini - Mini Mouse Cake Melia's Second Birthday

Hello readers!
I am going to share with you a quick post about a cake I made last week and today in the (hopefully sunny natural sun light) get some great photos of my new projects and pieces I was working on this past week. Until then though here is the birthday cake.

Here is a Mini- Mini Mouse cake I made for Melia who turned two. There was not much room for writing and this was a late night, quick put together and don't have time to freeze the cake prior to icing, run out of powder sugar while the hubby is out of town and cant run to the store in the middle of the night to get more cause the kids are sleeping, kinda cake and it really isn't my best work. Here is my inspiration from this post about this Mini Mouse First birthday cake.... http://blog.sowhipped.co.za/2011/09/2-tier-mini-mouse-1st-birthday-cake.html.

It was a HEL-met of a CAKE!

I honestly have not been crafting much in the way of working with paper and books like I usually have been this year. I ended the year with some painting in my master bed and bath that once the faux finish and flooring are done I will post photos of later.

Today I am going to share with you my first post of the new year and though it's not scrapbooking related it is one of my favorite things to do ... decorate specialty cakes!

I am admitting I don't like fondant and most of my friends/customers don't either so I use butter cream and modeling chocolate for most of my works.

Here is a photo of my newest confection, the Auburn Helmet! This was made for a friend of mine who just loves Auburn. He loved it.

PS. I made my goal and posted over 52 posts last year. New Years resolution for 2011... check! Let's see... the Grace's scrap attic blog 2012 resolution.... 104 posts! Think I can do it? I hope so! See you later ladies and gents.

Happy belated New Year and Merry Christmas!

Lego Star Wars Party

I love planning birthday parties and since I started using Helmar when creating my party projects I save time and money! This year my son has chosen a Lego Star Wars theme. That was a great choice but I could not find the party supplies anywhere local and all the major online suppliers were out of stock of several items. So I decided to make all the party supplies. This was the perfect time for Helmar to prove itself once again at making my life a bit easier.

EDIT: To see the 3D light saber invitations please see this link HERE

I put on a spread of goodies for the little fingers to snack on. Here was the Menu:
  • Wookiee Cookies - (my chocolate chip cookies)
  • Chocolate covered Lightsabers - (These are pretzel rods coated in candy melts with a 1" foil wrapper around one end)
  • Tatooine Treats - (Rice Krispie Treats balled up to look like a desert planet)
  • Strarfigter Crisps - (Doritos)
  • Corn Gornts - (Finger sized Corn dogs)
  • Naboo Nibblets - Fruit and veggie tray

  • Yoda Soda - (7up and lime sherbert punch)

I like to give the kids options with their goodie bags so I usually place the choices on a table and have them fill their bags with one gift as they complete a game. Everyone wins!

This year my son chose cupcakes instead of a big cake and I was more then happy to oblige. I decided to make some personalized ones. Here is how...
Step 1: Print out your cupcake topper design (1" or slightly less in size) and punch them out with a circle punch.
Punching out the printables
Step 2: Punch our or use your circut to cut the background cardstock circles at 1 1/4"
Step 3: Drop a spot of Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive on the background cardstock sticking the tip of a toothpick into the drop. Rub it around a bit to cover the middle of the cardstock circle. Adhere the punched printed design. Here you can see I am about to glue on the Yoda circle.
Asembeling the printables copy
Step 4: Let dry! Which takes less then a min! Here you can see the six designs I made.

Completed cupcake toppers
Step 5: Insert the cupcake toppers into the tops of your decorated cupcakes! Enjoy!!!
Cupcakes done
Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive also helped in other projects. I did not get photos of making them though... the project was so easy and Helmar was so great to work with that the kids completed the project. Here is where we really saved money! If you have ever looked at the price of party backdrops they can range from $15 -$25. I only paid $1.25!

Here is a closeup.

And here are more photos of the things I did for his party
I hope you have gotten some ideas on how to make your next party special. Don't forget to make it easier with Helmar!

Glitter makes everything Better! Designer Purse Invitation

"Glitter makes everything Prettier, Mommy!" explained my sweet 5 year old daughter after I noticed multiple dashes of red glitter throughout the house. She had taken the glitter from her craft box (not my good PK Glitz Glitter, thank goodness) and had sprinkled it in places like the hallway, the bathroom counter, her daddy's computer keyboard, the guinea pig cage and about eight other locations in our home.

I am telling this story because yesterday was my daughters 6th birthday. Even though she got in trouble that summer day, she was right, Glitter makes everything Prettier... especially P K Glitz Glitter! I added that last part.

Here are my darling diva's birthday invitations to prove it!

There is so much P K Glitz products in these. I used the P K Glitz Sticky Paper with the cricut to make the logos, which are her initials "TL". I glittered them with Black, P K Glitter Glitz. The "Your Invited" on the front of the invitation insert was done the same way only with Silver, P K Glitter Glitz. I used the Quickie Glue Pen by Sakura over her name where it was signed at the bottom of the invitation info. I glitzed it up with some Silver, P K Glitter Glitz and POP! it went...

I used 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2" P K Glitz Sticky Tape. The 1/8" was used on the silver paper buckle then glittered with Silver, P K Glitter Glitz. The 1/4" was used to adhere the pieces together all around the purse. The 1/2" Sticky Tape was used to adhere the thick black satin ribbon around the top of the purse. This product, and the multiple sizes it comes in, made this project so easy to assemble since I made 20 of them for her to hand out.

See, Glitter does make everything prettier!
