Yard Sale Find Flipped to a Colonial Antebellum Home Inspired Dresser

Welcome everyone to my Colonial Antebellum inspired Dresser Flip. It began with this $20 dresser yard sale find. This 10 drawer find I thought was in fairly good condition aside from some deep scratches on the top that needed to be sanded out or filled. They were even kind enough to deliver it.

Once I got it home and out of their grass...  I could see the work I had in store for me. The above image shows how much cosmetic work was needed to be done to the side of the footings and moldings. Most of it I was able salvage after removing 6 nails and 4 screws, all of them were driven in from the outside of the piece and were visible. The molding was in 3 pieces in the front and missing the back foot.

Repairs were made and she was brought back to life... Possibly even a grander life then she had before with the addition of the shutters to her mirror and new hardware. This dresser was inspired by the Colonial Antebellum architecture found frequently here in the south. I am in love with all the history around here that comes with being on the east coast.

Meet Mrs. Hayward

I will admit I felt like this project was never going to end. Rebuilding, repairs, patching and sanding. It so far was the largest rehab I have done. Her Body is finished with Alamo White antiqued with Black ReVax, sealed with Sheer Vax.

Her top is Licorice (black) with Black Revax as a sealer.

Isn't he just so adorable? This cute 12" tall Snowman is in Books on Broad awaiting purchase so he can go to his new home this holiday season!

He sets atop a silver metal tray with fin feathers around the bottom to mimic a new dusting of the fantastic white powder we call snow. Adorned with holly leaves and berries and his scarf and top hat he is one dapper dude for a snowman.

Minecraft 3D Box Birthday Party Invitations - Custom Handmade Cards

Well my wonderful readers, it's that time of year again, my son's:

Birthday Party Time!!!

The theme this year is: MINECRAFT

Minecraft 3D Box Birthday Party Invitations (click to enlarge)

In a new state we were able to scale down the amount of invitations to only 20 this year! That is huge for this Mama, who is used to inviting upwards of 40 kids! Can you imagine? I think we even had our Harry Potter party where we allowed siblings to attend as well with almost 50 kids in attendance. YIKES!

After a very chilled out BFF only party last year my son is ready to host a bash again this year. So he choose his theme of Minecraft. If you have a child in you life who likes video games I am sure you know what this is. It reverts back to the old 16-bit graphics and is wildly popular with the gaming crowd. I don't mind him playing this game because of many reasons but my favorite thing about it is that it uses creativity. My son will sit here and build a home from the bottom up or a roller coaster or something crazy. Yup, the creativity in this game is what sold me on it.

Enough about that lets get on with the 3D Invitations! Let me know what you think in the comments below.

As seen in the image above we used clear 6.5" square envelopes to hand out these cards. They could be mailed also they fold up so thin! How cool is that? Both the back and front of the card is the TNT graphic.

How does it work? Check out this 2 min video where my son, the birthday boy shows you how it works, push play and watch it in action:

Since these are double sided you can always opt to "unfold" one side relieving the inside of the box a bit more while the card is inside the envelope. But we didn't do this... thought it would be more fun to have the 3D surprise in the box when they opened it.

Option 2 on flattening the card (click to enlarge)
Once you open the card it unfolds into a box and the side flaps come down revealing the party info and characters like these here: Steve, Enderdragon, Enderman, Slime and a Zombie Pigman.

My son helped me fussy cut out all the characters, we averaged about 100 total. Here are some close ups of the characters inside the box card. The cool thing about this is each card was different. No card had the exact same characters, which left the kids chatting about it after they were handed out. Who got what inside their invitations!

Close up #2: Enderdragon, Steve, Pig, Cow, Creeper and Ghast

I hope you found this an interesting post. We had tons of fun making these and handing them out. There will be more post to come about the party decor, games and food.

Halloween Glam, a Romantic Twist on the Traditional Holiday Decor

Good day everyone!
It has been a while for me to post and today I am very excited to share with you some of my favorite Halloween decor for this season. Halloween Glam is a romantic twist on the holiday replacing orange with reds and adding chrome type silvers. A more romantic flair on the traditional Halloween decor. Here are my Halloween Glam Projects... enjoy.

One of my Skeleton Fairies. My mother in law was in town while I was crafting this window up and she helped out so much. Thank you! She actually made these wings... Fantastic aren't they!

This is just part of my display but the drunk skeletons give me a giggle.

Here I am up in the window, organizing and placing things and then showing off the fantastic colors of the parasol.

All projects were created with Helmar Adhesives.

Moss and Book page hanging wall art - Decorating on a Dollar

Hello everyone,

I am still wrapping up all the "homework" I have from CHA I have been having some creative fun this past week. Moving into spring and starting to gear up for Easter how about you? Us crafty types start early... got to leave time to make those fantastic projects, right?

Today I bring you a very large, yet simple and sweet, wall art project.

Bless this nest wall art

Here was my favorite part... moss is messy but I found this Super Moss Mat (a flat roll) at my local craft store and when you use Helmar 450 (click for tutorial post) with it... OH MY GOODNESS, it was SO EASY AND FAST!

Helmar and super moss

Here is a close up. You can see the "N" is one of the 3D letters and the "E" and "S" are chipboard and are flat.

I actually went through and curled all the page corners forward to give it some playfulness and then I was done.

I hope you have enjoyed this post. Please feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments below or if you are working on any spring projects I would love to see them.

Have a Happy Scrappy Day!

Mini - Mini Mouse Cake Melia's Second Birthday

Hello readers!
I am going to share with you a quick post about a cake I made last week and today in the (hopefully sunny natural sun light) get some great photos of my new projects and pieces I was working on this past week. Until then though here is the birthday cake.

Here is a Mini- Mini Mouse cake I made for Melia who turned two. There was not much room for writing and this was a late night, quick put together and don't have time to freeze the cake prior to icing, run out of powder sugar while the hubby is out of town and cant run to the store in the middle of the night to get more cause the kids are sleeping, kinda cake and it really isn't my best work. Here is my inspiration from this post about this Mini Mouse First birthday cake.... http://blog.sowhipped.co.za/2011/09/2-tier-mini-mouse-1st-birthday-cake.html.

This is Melia blowing out her candles... HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELIA!
