Peacock Crafty Couture - Altered Dress, Crown, Wings & Articulated Tail

What better way to make a statement then a Peacock Couture Dress? There are so many parts and details to this Crafty Couture project I can't even try to share them all with you. This will be a fun photo heavy post so enjoy the eye candy.

The Dress

Tulip Fabric Paints, from I Love to Create were sued to distress the dress and to create a henna, mehendi inspired motif.

  

The Sash/pendant was created with May Arts Ribbons, Prima Marketing Flowers and peacock feathers. Held together with Helmar Adhesives.

The Wings

The base of the wings were created with PVC piping and a custom harness so they float on the back of the person wearing them, they are not tied on in any way. Makes for a comfortable piece that is able to be worn all day without any strain on the shoulders, skin, or even back.

The harness was created in two parts. One part is very easily built into any dress or corset. This harness base is padded and can be worn all day. The second part is what the wings are build off of. This part slides into the base for a quick and easy dress/undress with the wings.

The wing decoration was created mainly with  May Arts Ribbons (some hand cut into gold feathers), feathers and Prima Marketing Flowers.

 The Articulated Tail

The tail was engineered with my own design. It moved freely to be fanned out like a live peacock on display then to lay down the back of the dress in a resting position like a dress train. It works with the pull of two strings. It was created with up-cycled items, netting, hardware and over 300 peacock feathers. Accented with May Arts Ribbons, Prima Marketing Flowers .

The Crown

The crown consists of bits of metal Prima Marketing  findings, some Prima Marketing Flowers and a few wisps of gems on a string from May Arts Ribbons.

Supplies:
Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots
Helmar Decoupage Craft Paste
Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive - EMPTY
May Arts - String/Pearls
May Arts - Leaves
May Arts - Metallic Velvet
May Arts - Metallic Eyelash Wired
Mist Spray - Silver and Gold
Pearl Puff Paint
Gold Glittered Tulle
Glass Candle Holders
Paper Cones
Extra Tree Toppers (feather boa, jingle bell)
Book Pages

STEP 1:Use Helmar Decoupage Craft Paste to decoupage the book pages onto the paper cones. Let dry.

STEP 2: Mist cones of your choice with Color mist sprays. Let dry.

STEP 3: Adhere May Arts Ribbons to cones in a spiral with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive, because it dries clear, drys fast, adheres to almost anything and won't leak/bleed through fabric ribbons.

STEP 4: Adhere May Arts - Metallic Eyelash Wired, a piece of feather boa or a jingle bell to the points of the cone trees with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive, because of it's properties discussed above and it's permanent, strong hold once dry.

STEP 5: Gather supplies in the photo below for large tree. Take larger cone and your empty Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive.

Run a bead of Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots along the bottom of the can.

Insert can bottom side up into large cone.

 Line top of clean candle stick with Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots, which I chose for it's strong hold on both plastic and glass. Place the lid of the Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive can centered onto the candle stick. Straighten tree wild glue is still wet. For best results let dry over night.

STEP 6: Using Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive adhere tulle to the inside lip of an empty ribbon spool (that has been tested to fit inside the very bottom of the small tree.
Run a bead of Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive along the bottom of the inside of your tree's cone.

Insert Spool with tulle (completely dry) into bottom of tree. Use Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to adhere the bottom of the tree to the glass candle stick.

STEP 7: For middle sized cone I used a broken ribbon spool and a 6" tulle by the yard spool. Taking my Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive  I ran a bead of it along one side of the 6" tube and adhered it to the center of the inside of the broken ribbon spool. Then once set, I ran a bead of Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive around the top of the 6" tube and adhered this center into the middle cone. Once set I used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to adhere the bottom of the tree to the glass candle stick.

Decorating on a Dollar with Core'dinations and Helmar

Core'dinations Cardstock, Helmar, Holidays and Decorating on a Dollar with Grace 

Good Morning Everyone I wanted to share this project post I did for the Helmar blog yesterday.

 Homemade ornaments are all the rage and today I am going to show you how Core'dinations Cardstock and Helmar make it look amazing! So, are you ready to pull out the craft supplies and get ready for the holidays? This would be a great low cost gift idea too! Lets call this one a Decorating on a Dollar project.

Step 1: Take 1 12x12 sheet of Core'dinations Cardstock and cut it into twelve 1" wide strips. Then cut those strips into 2" long pieces. You should have a lot of 1"x 2" pieces of Core'dinations Cardstock...

Moss and Book page hanging wall art - Decorating on a Dollar

Hello everyone,

I am still wrapping up all the "homework" I have from CHA I have been having some creative fun this past week. Moving into spring and starting to gear up for Easter how about you? Us crafty types start early... got to leave time to make those fantastic projects, right?

Today I bring you a very large, yet simple and sweet, wall art project.



Here was my favorite part... moss is messy but I found this Super Moss Mat (a flat roll) at my local craft store and when you use Helmar 450 (click for tutorial post) with it... OH MY GOODNESS, it was SO EASY AND FAST!



Here is a close up. You can see the "N" is one of the 3D letters and the "E" and "S" are chipboard and are flat.


I actually went through and curled all the page corners forward to give it some playfulness and then I was done.

Crafty Couponing... an entirely different type of Extreme

I am so excited to share this project with you today. After crafting all boy stuff in May for my son's birthday party I finally can get back to my own style and create what makes me really happy! I have two major hobbies crafting and couponing! Yup, I just love to save me some money on groceries so I can spend it on crafty goodies! I have to say when I saw the Lawn Fawn stamp set Sew Lovely I knew I had to use it to make my "Craft Fund" binder... er... coupon binder. LOL.

I think I will be the most stylish couponer out there. Let me show you a bit about this binder that I just love!
This Lawn Fawn stamp cluster is sew cute! The dress is created with a simple paper piecing technique and the button was simply stamped over the circle that was there from the patterned paper. I then colored over it with an opaque gold pen to hide the other lines from the paper. Did I mention I loved this Lawn Fawn set?
This is all just stamped on the patterned paper I chose for the cover. It was stamped using a mask over the paper pattern (the old world flourish). This will allow for the stamps to look like they were behind the pre-printed patterned paper images. Several masks were also used to make all of the spools and the sewing machine look like they are on top and in front of each other. Then I simply just colored it in with coordinating color markers. This truly is sew lovely! Now let's look inside!
Here it is... This binder started as a used binder. It had two pockets on each side. Each change of paper is so the pockets are still useable. The stamps in there are the same as the stamps on the outside but some different techniques. To recover the binder I used Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive... it works great gluing to plastics and paper. Tip: work in small areas... it dries really fast!

Check out this boarder! I love Lawn Fawn's acrylic stamps for this reason! I was able to make a nice rectangular boarder in a snap! The paper piecing is a little different here using an extra layer of paper. I have used the Helmar Acrylic Sealer to seal over all the paper piecing layers. This will help seal them in so that they don't start pealing off with all the wear and tare that this binder is expecting to get. I also used it all over the cover too to help protect it. I love that stuff!

After putting so much work into this binder I was really worried about it falling apart like most plastic binders do. So I reinforced the binding on the inside with some canvas ribbon. I stamped it with more of Lawn Fawn Stamps from the Sew Lovely set to decorate the binding. Also I used Helmar 's Acid Free Glue to adhere the ribbon to the binder this will help strengthen the binding with a flexible bond.

Here you can see the ribbon well. I adhered it to the front and inside using the Helmar's Quick-fix Adhesive Runner with its permanent bond it was just perfect! Nice smooth edges and oh my, it was so easy and quick to use! Love it!!
